Eric Rudd Photography shoots for Habitat for Humanity

Yesterday I had the distinct pleasure to photograph a home being built by our local chapter of Habitat for Humanity. What made this project extra special was that this house was being built entirely by women. "Womenbuild" is a 10 day long marathon located on the west side of Bloomington. Through the wonderful organizational skills of Ann Schertz, a local photojournalist, we donated our time to document the day(s). The weather was gorgeous, the work hard (all I did was hold a camera, though), and the results, I think, are going to be well worth the effort. Janna Castillo is the wonderful, gracious homeowner-to-be. I enjoyed chatting with her about her life and the enthusiasm she has for her new house. This women has been through some tough times recently, however. Not too long ago the Janna was involved in a car accident which left one of her daughter's paralyzed from the waist down. My prayers and thoughts go out to her and her family.

Umm....this isn't Kelsey and Matt. This handsome couple is actually Matt's grandparents. They were the winners of the "Last Couple Standing" contest at the reception this past weekend. They've been married 55 years. Really.

Client Meeting?

The internet is an amazing place. Earlier this year I booked a wedding with a wonderful couple based in Lafayette, Indiana. At least, I think they're wondeful. You see, we've not met. They found me on the internet and asked me to photograph their wedding in Louisville, Kentucky. And I'm in Bloomington, Indiana. We haven't talked over the details yet, but I'm wondering if I shouldn't stand out on the interstate to hitch a ride with them on their way down south!!

We tried to get together earlier. We scheduled a portrait session but it got rained out. They didn't need engagement pictures so there was no sense of urgency. They get a complimentary portrait session with their package, but chose to take advantage of that offer later on.  Now that their date is fast approaching it looks like we won't get a chance to meet before the wedding. I really wish that wasn't the case, but they remain easy-going and not too worried about it. In the meantime, they sent me a photograph of them so that I can recognize them at the wedding....



They should be easy to spot in the crowd.

Better Batter Birthday

This morning my son, Charlie, bounded out of bed (a rare occurrence) and raced downstairs. Today is his birthday and he was excited to get started. For a couple of weeks now all he has wanted was the Fisher Price Better Batter Baseball. After a bit of searching around town we finally found one. This morning I got up early to accomplish the "some assembly required" requirement. 

So, without breakfast, without brushing his teeth, without changing out of his p.j.'s, (at least Mom managed to get a coat on him), he was out the backdoor to try it out. It's a nice feeling when Mommy and Daddy can make our guy so happy....

Cinco de Mayo {birthday}

Yesterday I wrote about how we all need a village of friends and family to love and support us during our lives. This morning I woke up to discover a sign on my neighbor's house across the street....



I am the luckiest wedding photographer in the world to be surrounded with such wonderful friends and my lovely wife, Susan, and my above average son, Charlie. I was in my twenties before I realized that Cinco de Mayo was the same day as my birthday. Now, it's a fantastic excuse for a party!!!

Children should be grow up surrounded with patience, humor, and a whole lotta love. After years in the rat race of the music industry, moving from place to place, I settled down with my wife and son in the little town of Bloomington. We have family here to help raise our 4 year old. It really does take a village.

Little Gabi here has her own village. We've known her mom and dad for many, many years and we were thrilled when we heard they were expecting last August. Well, it took me a few months to get up to Chicago to shoot some portraits at their home and the most awesomest flower shop in Lincoln Park. (A New Leaf....their website does not do them justice!) This little girl is surrounded by family who love her very much!! Congrats, guys!
